Sometimes I feel like the world is ending on holiday weekends. Perhaps I have seen too many movies or am I a tad dramatic. However, the quick and sudden drop off of the daily hustle has me feeling like I am in a Tom Cruise movie. Everything feels like it has been turned on its head, and it is almost too quiet. A little spooky even. Gosh, I just dated myself a little bit with that reference since Cruise has not done an awesome end of the world movie in forever.
Our past weekend was relatively quiet and drama-free. I always feel compelled to do something out of the ordinary or special on holidays. Scott and I are a little different in this regard. He loves Christmas, but other holidays he can mostly take or leave. He is willing to celebrate of course, but actually prefers when holidays are just like regular days. I kind of have to convince him that we really should celebrate his birthday and things along those lines. He was working his usual schedule this weekend so it was a fairly uneventful few days except for one rather dramatic occurrence.
Projects, Fitness and Paleo Treats
Surviving the Mini Tornado
It was the strangest thing, but Austin suddenly was in the middle of a tornado watch on Saturday night. We have been getting very unusual weather with rain storms practically every day and incredibly heavy humidity. It never goes away! I have been waking up in the middle of the night because the pounding rain is so loud on our roof. Austin has been in a drought for many years so this turn-around is completely unexpected.
Sadly, a lot of buildings in our area were damaged and there were a number of electrical poles down when we ventured out on Sunday morning. Luckily, we did not even lose power, but it was still kind of scary just the same.
Paleo Treats & The Words
What is a couple to do when faced with such terrible weather? Stay in, watch movies and eat Paleo treats of course. At least that is what we decided to do. My typical dessert is fruit or some dark chocolate after dinner. Well, Scott and I decided to go for the few remaining Paleo brownies sitting in the freezer after dinner. He had requested these for his birthday a few weeks ago and since we did not eat all of them I wrapped them up individually to freeze.
I wish I could take credit for the amazing recipe, but I am not quite there yet with my baking skills. This was another winning creation from Elana’s Pantry. The brownie is buried underneathe.
We topped these treats with coconut ice cream from Lick and fresh raspberries. Fabulous…typing this up right now is kind of making me want to eat it all over again. My photo does not do it justice.
While all this treating was going on we watched The Words with Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Irons. Really a great little story, and I completely recommend it. Anything that is set during WWII has me at hello. I am a sucker for the drama.
Farmer’s Market & Mueller Park
Scott and I keep a fairly regular routine on Sundays. We always try to get up early to go to make it to the first Church Service and then stop by the farmer’s market at the park on our way home.
We went for a short walk and stopped by a few of our favorite stands before deciding to head home. You would never know that storm took place the night before this photo was taken.
Back at the beginning of the year, I had shared my goals for 2015. One of my blog plans was to start a monthly newsletter for The Bikini Experiment. I had been thinking of some ideas, and I started working on an e-book that I will be sending to everyone as a thank you for signing up. I wrote most of it when we were flying back and forth for the wedding a few weeks ago.
It will be a free e-book divided into three sections – healthy habits, clean eating recipes and training. I needed Scott’s help for the gym photos so we headed out to the garage to take all of the pictures on Sunday.
Garage Gym Modeling – trust me, it is a thing.
He was a huge help and I am excited to go through a crazy amount of photos that are now sitting on my phone now. My plan is to edit and assemble everything over the next week (give or take) and get the e-mail sign up ready for early June. Stay tuned!
Taking all of the pictures felt a little bit like a mini workout! BUT, the rest of my gym time included a squat workout, cardio and a little yoga in the living room. I usually go to a class on Saturday, but I did not feel like venturing out with all the rain.
Linking up with The Fit Dish today. Have a wonderful Tuesday and I hope you are feeling energized after the long weekend!
