And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer… F. Scott Fitzgerlald, The Great Gatsby
2015 Summer Bucket List
Good morning! I hope you are fine and dandy today. Of course “dandy” popped into my mind because of The Great Gatsby quote. It just seemed totally appropriate. I do not really say it…much. Just kidding.
Summer is in full swing. I love this time of year, and usually have a few events or things I want to do before Labor Day rolls around. Now that I have a blog I can share my ideas in written form via a post! I also have some new things I want to do in Austin. I was busy moving last summer, and getting settled. As a result, Scott I and were both completely distracted. We are moving again, but I digress! Moving across the city will be nothing like across states. There are some things to check off my Summer Bucket List when I go home too.
Here is what I am most looking forward to this summer:
Scott and I have plans to go to Darius Rucker tonight! He is of “Wagon Wheel” and Hootie and the Blowfish fame if you are not familiar. I guess you could say I am crossing this one off my list early. We went to Austin City Limits Music Festival last Fall. I am hoping there will be an opportunity to catch some free concerts at Zilker Park later on too.
4th of July Fireworks
Scott and I both have a strong affection for celebratory fireworks.
We are going to scope out the scene and see where we should go this year. Last year I was moving down to Texas on 4th of July weekend. The only fireworks we saw were in our car from the highway. I believe we were in Tennesse? It is all a blur now.
Kayaking or SUP
I have done SUP once, and it was a lot of fun. So is kayaking. I would like to go once or twice this summer. We are moving closer to a few of the lakes in Austin so I am hoping this will be easy peasy!
The Jersey Shore
Austin has a lot going for it, but unfortunately it is sans beach. The closest one is quite a far drive. Luckily I am going to be traveling home to visit for a week next month. A trip to the beach is a big must!
Hiking in Hill Country
It is a workout with pretty scenery. Enough said. This is from NJ (not Hill Country), but you get the idea.
The Bat Bridge
This is a big tourist attraction in Austin. There is a local bridge downtown where all the bats fly up from at dusk. It sounds strange, but it really is a big deal. Scott and I were a little hazy on the location of said bridge. However, we were driving home a few Saturdays ago, and saw a big crowd by a bridge. Score! We have all the info we need now. I think.
My First Drive-In Movie
Blame it on my childhood obsession with Grease, but this has been on my bucket list for years. I refuse to cross it off until it actually happens. You know how you outgrow some desires? Well, this is not one of them for me.
An Ice Cream Cone Outside of Lick
The best Grass-fed ice cream and coconut ice cream EVER. The line for ice cream on a Saturday night is seriously no joke. Scott and I will sometimes grab a pint and dash because it is nuts. I would like to get a cone, and sit outside one night. Just because.
Go on a Picnic
A picnic basket of all things healthy and a glass of wine. Does it get any better? I am so on my picnic basket game.
I would really like to find an outdoor event or class that offers yoga outside. They actually had it on the roof top of Whole Foods at one point, but I was worried it would be too hot. To be continued…
And last, but definitely not least…
Can cocktails be a bucket list item? I already had wine at the picnic, but why not enjoy a cosmopolitan too? They always make me smile and think of the Sex and the City girls. My mom and I always get them when we go to our favorite Italian restaurant in NJ. Cheers!
There are some old favorites in here, and some new experiences too. Both have their own appeal!
In other news…
A special thank you to fitnesstrainer.com for featuring The Bikini Experiment as one of 5 Austin Fitness Bloggers to Follow Right Now. I am incredibly flattered!
