As I start to type this WIAW post I am starting to feel slightly delicious with exhaustion. Is it late you might ask? The clocks reads 8:00 so that would be a big no. However, I have been suffering from a pretty darn bad case of coffee withdrawal this week. Tonight it is hitting me hard. I think coffee has a lot of benefits when it is part of our diets in a moderation. I was not drinking a ton of the good stuff, but I am super sensitive to it. I have cut back, and even done away with it entirely in the past. It always makes me feel incredibly tired while I try to adjust It is an experiment – I am not sure I will last!
Oh well, moving onto the food and today’s featured menu items…
WIAW #32: Coffee Withdrawal
The day started with a fairly substantial breakfast of two pastured eggs, a slice of bacon, kale and a piece of Paleo bread.
I love this recipe from Elana’s Pantry and make it pretty frequently. I actually try to leave most of it for Scott since he loves it so much. Afterwards, I enjoyed my one cup of coffee for the day (unpictured) and moved on. My consolation was that I could iced green tea later in the day. As if this was supposed to make me feel better. In times of desperation, we cling to any help we can get I guess.
I worked through the morning and around 1:00 I decided I should probably pull together some lunch. Leftovers included spaghetti squash and chicken. I added some tomatoes and kale and voila – a quick meal made in minutes. There was also a dash of EVOO for a bit of flavor.
It was good – a little bland, but pretty filling. I cleared up the kitchen, and went back to work. Later in the afternoon I took a break to work out. As you can imagine, Austin is starting to get pretty darn hot. Working out in the garage has to be done really early in the day. I missed that window so I decided to go up to the gym that is part of our apartment complex. It has basic cardio machines, and after some time on the elliptical I hit up the weights to round out my time and called it a day. I also did some yoga in the apartment when I got back. I have been feeling very tight in my hips and hamstrings, and figured some stretching could help. Yoga on You Tube has been a great recent discovery for me. I like that I can pick out routines that are only 10 minutes on days when I only want to do a short routine.
I whipped up a protein shake in the kitchen that included 1 Scoop of Sunwarrior Classic Protein in Vanilla, 1 Scoop of Hemp Pro 70, half of a frozen banana, and frozen strawberries. There is nothing like a cold shake on a hot day. Perfect.
The iced green tea came out to play with its lackluster promise of a caffeine high. I poured it into a glass with a lot of ice and decided to take some work outside for the afternoon. It was nice briefly, but I started to feel too hard and headed in after a little while.
Scott came home and I chatted with him a bit before taking a quick shower and starting to prepare dinner. I became super hungry while I was cooking for some reason and settled on a rice cake to power me through the baking time left on the butternut squash.
One rice cake (I like the Lundberg brand), sunflower butter and a little bit of Raspberry Jam from Trader Joe’s.
Dinner was simple with a lot of favorites:
Wild caught salmon, Brussels Sprouts and butternut squash roasted with all spice, cinnamon and Himalayan salt.
Dessert followed with a cut up peach, fresh strawberries and two dark chocolate squares. I am all about the strawberries lately!
I have been having fun putting together these food recaps to share. They have been very popular so there will definitely be more of them in the future.
Must wrap this up and start to get ready for bed. I am not sure how long this coffee restriction will last. I’m so tired from coffee withdrawal!
Have a great Wednesday, and I will see you back here tomorrow.
Question of the Day: Have you ever suffered from coffee withdrawal?
