PB&J Inspired Protein Shake
PB& J Inspiration
Does it get any better than a fruity shake in a mason jar? This one takes it a step further and is actually Peanut Butter and Jelly inspired. This was my favorite sandwich as a kid! I could eat them every single day. In retrospect, it is probably very fortunate that I did not develop a peanut allergy. Nowadays, I eat peanut butter far less because I have been introduced to such a range of nut butters. Were there always so many? I think I only heard of almond butter and cashew butter becoming a “thing” over the past few years. People are now obsessed – and for good reason!
Beat the Summer Heat
The heat in Austin has steadily been on the rise. All the rain we were experiencing just stopped one day. Now we are in what I would determine is the beginning stage of summer. Come August it will be like an oven! Speaking of which I have been trying to use mine a little less. It is a bit of a change because I feel like I am always roasting some kind of squash, potato or vegetable. The oven is still somewhat of a necessity. However, I have found that I have been craving more colds foods lately anyway. Things like salads, fruits and icy shakes – like this PB& J one.
Science in the Protein
Shakes can serve many different purposes from a nutrition stand point. They can be a meal replacement or a great way to get some quick protein after a workout if you do not have access to food immediately. This one is more of a meal replacement variety since it contains nut butter. Most science does indicate we should avoid a lot of fat following a workout. No big deal because this is great for breakfast, lunch or a snack.
This shake contains frozen strawberries and almond butter. However, you could easily customize it with the nut butter and berries of your choice. Kind of like when you wander the isle at the food store and there are a million kinds of jam. Your shake – your choice!
It was only a few weeks ago that I posted a grain-free muffin recipe inspired by my discount find at the food store. My love of the berry is strong, and I am really digging the fact that I see those little sale signs are popping up more because they are in season. The summer is a good place to be!
- 1 Cup of Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
- 4 Frozen Organic Strawberries
- 1 Scoop of Sun Warrior Vanilla Classic Protein
- 1 Tablespoon of Almond Butter
- ¼ Teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
- Dash of Himalyan Pink Salt
- 1-2 Ice Cubes
- Place all of the ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth. Pour into a glass and enjoy!
I have used Sun Warrior for years and really like the texture and taste of this protein powder. There are so many out there! I would caution that you should read the ingredient list carefully. You would be amazed at how chemically-ladden some brands can be. The vanilla extract adds just a little more dimension to the sweetness. The Himalyan salt brings out the best of all the flavors. It is really a win-win in my opinion.
Any good plans on tap for the weekend? Scott and I are looking to move out of our current apartment in August or September. We are going to be moving to the other side of the city so he will be closer to his work. So I think we are going to start checking out some places on Saturday. Lots of boxes and packing are in the future! I get slightly traumatized when I think of all the equipment in the garage that will need to be moved.
Maybe I will need to start up that meditation practice I mentioned in my 2015 Goal Post Update. 🙂
In the meantime, have fun and I will see you back here on Monday.
