Happy Wednesday! I would like to thank everyone who shared their case of nerves about going to a new hair dresser yesterday. It is so nice to hear I am not the only one who suffers from this anxiety. It is amazing that a haircut made it into the title of my post for What I Ate Wednesday. However, I spent so much time engaging in the activity of hair maintenance that it certainly deserved a shout out.
New Hair + WIAW #36
I will just say that I consider myself to be pretty lucky to be able to get my hair cut on a random Tuesday afternoon. Since I am freelance writing these days I have flexibility in my schedule to do these types of things However, it tends to make me feel a little guilty because I feel like I should be productive all the time. When I used to leave work my mind completely shut off and I would enjoy going to the gym or running an errand knowing I was done for the day. Now it is about finding a new balance because my hours do not necessarily have to be 9 to 5. Which is better? I am actually not sure.
Right now Scott and I live a bit on the outskirts of Austin. We love our apartment, but we are not really close to anything. So I have to allow extra time for any errand or activity. Including said haircut. Anyway…let us back up earlier in the day.
It was kind of a little bit of a hodgepodge situation from whatever we had in our refrigerator. If you have ready any of my previous WIAW posts you are aware that I eat a lot of healthy food. This is of course good and bad. Good for fuel, and bad for time crunch situations. There was an odd mix of foods in the refrigerator, but I decided to try and put them together.
Breakfast was a “hash” which is a classy way I say odds and ends for a meal.
1 Small Sausage Link, Plantain Slices, Zucchini & Eggplant and 2 Eggs. Cold coffee in a mason jar.
I got a little behind working on an article, and realized I needed to get my booty in gear. I grabbed an iced green tea and water and headed up to the gym to fit in a workout. I probably should have had some protein when I got home, but I decided to hop in the shower and get ready instead.
Lunch – mix of spinach, cold salmon, more of the zucchini & eggplant, and some olives. Extra virgin olive oil and vinegar for dressing.
I drank my Kombucha all in one gulp because the heat tends to make me fairly thirsty. We have plenty of heat to go around in Austin! With the salad, I was a bit out of luck. I was already running a little late (about 10 minutes) and it takes me FOREVER to finish any type of salad. All that chewing perhaps? I grabbed a few more bites and put in a container for later.
It was not much so I grabbed a Larabar in Cashew Cookie for the road. More snacks would have been appropriate since I was gone almost all day. After my hair appointment I ran a few errands and it was seriously dinnertime when I got back.
The salon happened to be near Trader Joe’s so it was a must stop We were also completely out of any vegetables or fruit. It was fate.
I wanted to get more pictures of the salon and my hair, but I felt a little awkward all of a sudden. The more I blog the more comfortable I get with taking all kinds of pictures, but every once in a while I get shy.
Anyway, this is the picture I sent to my mom. Selfie skills are improving for sure! Maybe…
While I put together dinner I had the remains of that lunch salad. I also had eggs again for dinner. I am sure that sounds crazy, but I was hungry and they are the quickest meal on the fly.
Egg whites, Brussel sprouts, Avocado and the other half of my Plantain.
The plantain did not work at all here, and I ended up pushing it off to the side to eat last.
Now I am having a few grapes while I chat with you guys and getting ready to call it a night. Later kids!
