Hey there! Happy Monday to you. I hope you are rested and ready to dive into the week! I wanted to share my weekend highlights as well as a new recipe for a Cocoa Lemon Detox Smoothie with you today.
The new year is a time to focus on healthy living after the indulgences we all enjoyed over the holidays. However, I always cringe a little when people start talking about getting a jump start through a cleanse. What I do like is using natural ingredients to promote detoxification in the body. I was playing around in the kitchen recently, and came up with a delicious recipe for a Cocoa Lemon Detox Smoothie.
Cocoa Lemon Detox Smoothie
This smoothie has a light chocolate flavor and is sweet enough with the addition of the Stevia combined with the almond milk. The spinach has absolutely no taste and completely blends into the shake.
- 1 and ½ cups Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
- ½ Tablespoon Unsweetened Cocoa
- ¼ of a lemon (juiced)
- 2 Shakes of Organic Cayenne Pepper
- 1 Teaspoon of MCT Oil
- 1 Packet of Stevia (I used Sweet Leaf)
- 1 Large Handful of Organic Spinach (Washed and Rinsed)
- 1-2 Ice Cubes
- Add your almond milk to a blender followed by all of the other ingredients. Blend until smooth and enjoy!
- Cocoa Powder – Antioxidant
- Greens and Citrus – Alkalizes the body. I chose lemon because it is low in sugar.
- Cayenne Pepper – Increases blood flow
- MCT Oil – Supports Liver Function
This smoothie will support your body’s ability to flush out its own system. The Cocoa Lemon Detox Smoothie is a combination of healthy fats and greens. I recommend adding your choice of protein powder to make this a meal replacement or to enjoy following a workout. Protein alters this from a detox drink because there is some toxic processing required.
I hope you like the Cocoa Lemon Detox Smoothie if you decide to give it a try for yourself! So onto the weekend highlights!
Our weekend was a nice combination of active and relaxing. No doubt the highlight was meeting Kaylin of Enticing Healthy Eating who was in Austin for the week with her fiancée, Wade. We had connected through our mutual blogs a few months ago. When Kaylin knew she was going to be visiting the past week we emailed to set up a date so we could all meet up together. We scheduled plans for this past Friday and decided to have dinner at one of my favorite local restaurants – Vino Vino. It was a perfect night and we chatted for a while over some delicious meals and red wine about Austin, blogging, health and lots of other fun topics.
If you have a chance head on over to Bagels and Broccoli to check out my interview with Jen that went live today. I will see you on the blog tomorrow with a new post!
