Good morning! I cannot believe today is Friday. Did this week go by in a flash for anyone else? The days passed by quickly over here, and now the weekend is upon us. Since Scott works unconventional hours, and I have been looking for a job since I moved down to Austin we are fortunate that we have some flexibility to occasionally do things during the week. Today’s adventure includes a trip to Ikea to scope out a few things for our apartment. Though this might not fall into someone else’s category of a traditional date, we enjoy doing these types of errands and shopping trips together. A lot of times when you are with your favorite people I have found that any activity can be fun. It is all what we make it folks!
Speaking of favorites…today is Friday, and I am excited to share some things with you that I have been loving this week.
9/26: Friday’s Favorite Things
R3 Prevention Summit – I was thrilled this past week when Austin Fit Magazine provided me two tickets to attend the upcoming R3 Prevention Summit in Austin next month. It is a health and wellness conference with a slew of promotions, programs and fun speakers. There will be workshops and group fitness activities to enjoy as well. I am really looking forward to it.
I am a big fan of the actress/model, Andie MacDowell, and was she just announced as one of the speakers. I hope that I get to meet her! I followed her career for a long time, and now watch The Cove on Netflix. I will be doing full recaps of the conference days on the blog so you will get to learn all about it. In the meantime, if you are curious about the event or the sponsors (there are some great ones) you can read more about it here.
Ozeri Knife Set – In what probably falls into the category of a “heathy eating” problem I actually broke a ceramic knife this week when I was trying to cut a squash. In our house, squash cutting falls under Scott’s responsibilities, but he was not home to aid me. In my attempt, the knife completely broke and I had to work around it. It was then promptly tossed into the garbage. As I grabbed another knife I saw that one had a few cracks too. Hmm…they were dropping like flies. I ordered the Ozeri 3-Piece Knife Set from Amazon since it was so affordable and received glowing reviews. I was not disappointed! These knives are really awesome, and I have been enjoying an implement that actually cuts well. I definitely recommend them if you are in the market for some new knives!
Lifetime Fitness – I am very fortunate to have several gyms at my disposal.
We have our garage gym nearby and our apartment complex also has a small gym where I will sometimes go to do a little cardio. This has been hugely helpful over the summer on days where it has been too hot to go for a walk or run outside. I also still belong to Lifetime because it allows me a place to do my other workouts during the week, and they offer a variety of yoga classes. I know that Austin has a great yoga scene that I will tap into for the future, but I will be sticking with Lifetime right now since it offers the machines that I need for some workouts and a solid yoga program especially for a commercial gym.
When I was there this week I looked around, and was appreciating how they not only focus on fitness, but overall health too.
Sophisti-Clean Duster – Have you reached a certain age where cleaning supplies can actually be a favorite thing? I picked up this duster last week at Marshall’s, and am excited to report that I love it. Texas is incredibly dusty, and when I drove myself into SCB last Saturday I busted out this new tool. The duster works really well, and I am glad to have a piece that is reusable and can be washed once it has fulfilled its dusting destiny.
I go through so many swifter cloths on the reg, and I worry that it is completely wasteful and harmful for the environment.
Better Homes & Gardens Fabric Drawer Organizer – Can we talk about costume jewelry for a second? I know I have a ton of it. When bracelets and long necklaces became the rage I had to have multiples. The more the better! I would be checking out at The Loft or Express, and I would spy the jewelry display. If there was a sale or promotion going on I would succumb hook, line and sinker. It was usually buy one get 50% off so I would have even more bounty. As a result of that weakness, and an incredibly generous mother who loves to give me jewelry too I am swimming in it. This is a nice problem to have of course, but lately I have been lacking the storage to display it. This jewelry dividers I found at Walmart seems to do the trick nicely. I find that it is a great little display unit for my chunkier pieces.
Almond Flour Muffins – I love these Almond Flour Muffins from Elana’s Pantry, and it is on my to-do list to make more over the weekend. They are really easy and require few ingredients. Scott and I love them since they go well with meals or can be eaten as a quick snack before a workout or later in the evening when you just need a little something. I let Scott snag the last one we had, and he really went to town on the Kerrygold butter.
I am headed to grab a quick breakfast and train with Scott. The weather in Austin has been amazing these past few days. After spending the past two months feeling like I was melting it is a lovey change of pace. Being outside has been a treat for sure.
