There is an old saying goes that summer bodies are made in the winter. I am not sure exactly if this is technically an old saying, but someone with a fitness Instagram account busts it out every few months or so. I completely agree that healthy living is a year round pursuit. However, the winter season can all get the best of us. Scott and I were absolutely guilty of skipping a few workouts in order to engage in a Netflix binge. The Killing does crazy things to people.
Austin’s recent weather has left me a bit uninterested in getting outside. As a result, the daily walks I usually enjoy and my runs suddenly dropped out. I was not really eating any differently, but all of a sudden I felt like a few pounds were creeping on and my energy was taking a hit. My solution was to start getting some cardio indoors. I felt better after a week or so of just getting in that extra activity during the day.
Now that Memorial Day Weekend has come and gone being out and about in a bikini is on my radar. It is really important to feel confident as we head into a season of more revealing clothes. There are also a lot of celebrations that happen this time of year like bridal showers, parties and weddings. We want to look our best at those too. After all, there is a lot of photographic evidence. Pretty soon we will wake up. and the hot days will be here to stay for a while. Get ready!
8 Tips to Get Bikini Ready
Water, Water Everywhere
Staying hydrated is important to flush out the toxins in our bodies. It also helps to speed up the metabolism, controls hunger and will even help to burn fat. Water also contributes to our skin looking its best. So drink up!
I have a hydroflask that I carry around with me everywhere. It keeps my water cold and fresh tasting. I hate warm water that seems like it has been sitting out for days. So the hydroflask is my answer.
Take a Daily Probiotic
There is more and more research connecting the importance of overall health with our stomach. I did an in-depth post on the importance of probiotics a few months ago. You can read more by clicking here.
What is Your Workout Missing?
I had been neglecting cardio and also got a little infrequent with working my abs. I would save it to the end of my workout, and then skip it all together. Now, you cannot always work everything at once of course. However it is good to be honest with yourself, and see what you need to be more mindful of on a daily basis. Running on the treadmill every day, but ignoring weights? Maybe vice versa?? Even something as simple as some stretching excercises could be necessary to improve your flexibility.
Make Healthy Choices
I got fit eating junk food.…said by no one – ever. Focusing on whole foods, and eating more vegetables and quality proteins are key when making your meal sections. Watch your sugar intake, and make sure your fat sources are good ones – avocado, olive oil, whole eggs and raw nuts to name a few.
Watch Your Alcohol Consumption
Alcohol has become part of the fabric of our daily living. I know I used to always like a glass of wine when I came home from work in the evening. We feel like it is part of unwinding from the day, and helps us to relax. However, one glass a day puts us at seven already for the week. Most of the time it really more since an actual glass is very small. It adds very up quickly! Unfortunately, alcohol has to be digested through our system through before any other foods so it slows the process down.
I would suggest a glass or two a week and plan ahead if you have a date night or girls outing.
Find a Buddy
I am very fortunate that Scott supports my fitness pursuits. However, not everyone shares it as an interest with their significant other or their closest friends. Positive encouragement goes a long way towards meeting your health goals. Finding a network of like-minded people can really help either in person or online. I see so much positive energy on social media and that can really be a source to keep you going on days when you might not feel like prepping a healthy meal or making your way to the gym.
Look for others who are trying to accomplish similar things! It can really be a great push.
