3/14: Friday’s Favorite Things

Friday is already here! I’ve been down in Austin this week so it’s been a real treat to enjoy the warmer weather and the change of scenery. I also got to see a touring production of Wicked which is my absolute favorite musical of all time. Going to theatre is always such a treat. Since tickets are so expensive I have to be more selective than I used to be, but I love them.

I like to share my favorite things of the week on Fridays so let’s get to the fun stuff!

Wicked – Of course this would have to be my top selection this week. There is a reason this show is so popular! If you’ve seen it you’ll know that being “popular” is a huge theme that runs throughout the story. Amazingly this show has been on Broadway for ten years now and I saw the original cast with Idinza Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth a long time ago. It was a pleasure to see it this week and fall in love with it a little bit all over again since I had forgotten some of the amazing plot tie-ins to the Wizard of Oz and the witty dialogue. Plus the score is just wonderful. If you have not seen it yet, I obviously feel that you should.

Sumo Oranges – I had been eyeing these at Whole Foods recently since I was intrigued by their strange shape. I finally purchased one this week. I usually find oranges to be a little disappointing and they are actually one of my least favorite fruits. There is the over involved peeling process which gets under my nails and then most of the time they are kind of dry and sort of sinewy. Does anyone use the term sinewy to describe fruit? Not with the sumo! This was totally delicious and tasty. They are a little on the large size…hence the name sumo so I only eat half at a time.

Urban Decay Beauty Balm – Urban Decay is one of my favorite make up lines and their beauty balm is my latest discovery. It only comes in one color and I was hugely skeptical because I have extremely light skin. In the product reviews I read online it was indicated that the cream is extremely adaptable. I decided to give it a try and was shocked at how well it absorbed. I’m very fortunate to have very clear skin, but on some days I do not want to be completely bare faced, but do not feel like wearing foundation either. This more than fits the bill and gives you a nice glow. If you are going out and night or dressing up for an event the balm can be worn under the foundation for an even more perfect and finished look. I am sold!

Pzizz – Once I turned 30 I feel like going to sleep at night became a little more like Russian Roulette. Meaning about half the time it goes really well and I score. If I have to get up really early for a meeting or appointment to catch a plane I develop huge anxiety and cannot get to sleep. Some nights I am not sure why it is but I just cannot seem to drift off and there is no explanation. Pzizz is a neat little app that I downloaded on my I-phone that is hugely helpful. You can set a time and a voice narrates a meditation that helps you to relax and fall asleep. Most of the time I fall asleep before the half hour has played. Even on nights where there does not happen immediately it helps me to relax.

Blog Opportunities– I discovered healthy living blogs about two years ago and even started a blog on Google Blogger but was frustrated by the platform and how limited it was to use. I decided to start from scratch with a new name and an improved design. I only started blogging again about 3 months or so ago and am still figuring so many things out. I love to write, but I have never been awesome at taking pictures or doing anything fancy like doing photo cropping or assembling a collage. So it’s all a little bit of a learning curve and an opportunity for me to learn and grow. I saw a twitter notice tweeted by Sara at Loving on the Run the other day about submissions for guest posts. I really like her blog and though I am not a true runner like she is I am totally inspired by her commitment and her honest style. I also can totally relate to the fact that she lost her job recently like me and has worked to overcome physical injuries. I emailed her right away and am planning to draft up my post in the next few days. I’m excited by the opportunity!

Next up – some lunch and a quick workout before the start of the weekend!

Question of the Day: What is one thing you are currently loving?

  1. Hey there ! Found your blog through other HLB comment sections :) I also recently started blogging. I have been a reader for a long time and thought it would be fun to start blogging myself. I have a terrible camera and my pictures are horrible so I can relate to how you are feeling in that department. I also don’t know much about photo editing and all that jazz.. It’s really cool that you are doing a guest post I love her blog as well !! Good luck on your blogging :)
