Hello and Happy Friday!
Any fun plans cooking this weekend? I do not have anything big on my agenda. However, I realized that Thanksgiving is going to be here very soon so I would like to start to put together some recipes for dinner. So perhaps a date with Pinterest? It will only be Scott and I so I have to be careful not to go overboard. Pumpkin pie is mandatory though! It is a must for me so I am looking for the perfect paleo pie recipe.
Below is a roundup of my favorite things I encountered this past week! They are a random collection of items that made me a little more cheerful. As always, I invite YOU to share something that has contributed to making your days a little happier in the comments section below.
11/14: Friday’s Favorite Things
My New Business Flyer
A few weeks ago I shared that I had passed my exam and earned my Certification as a Nutrition Coach! I will be putting more details up in a page on the blog regarding my health coaching, however, I decided to do a little marketing grass roots style since I wanted to promote my services in the local Austin area.
My talented sister, who happens to be a graphic artist, offered to design a business flyer for me. She worked on it for me this week and she did a great job! I hung my first one up on a local board yesterday, and more will be scattered around the city after a trip to staples for copies.
Open Face Egg Sandwich
The same breakfast every single day?
I do not mind if I do. I have a habit where I will make the same thing as my first meal of the day for weeks on end. My current choice?
I have been frying two pasture raised eggs in coconut oil, and having one each on a half of a slice of Ezekiel bread with Kerrygold butter.
Colorful Sofa Cushions
Matching things are a bit of a soft spot for me. I love everything to coordinate, and I attribute this quirk to why I love Trader Joe’s and Ikea so much. Everything matches! Determined to grow out of my comfort zone I vowed to find some non-matching pillows for our new couch. Scott and I went shopping last week after church and found these at Marshall’s.
It took me a few days to get used to them – I had gone out on a limb after all! Now I really like them.
This is one of my favorite quotes that I repeat to myself often. It is a great reminder to stay focused in the present, and not waste time worrying over things in the past that are over and done.
The style of the image was pretty neat too.
Scott and I work out together typically twice a week. I say “work out” together, but it is a little more like him coaching me. Our workouts are usually weightlifting technique because I can focus on cardio, and more machine based weights myself. Having a coach when it comes to lift is invaluable. We have a dry erase board in our gym where we write up our sessions. It is typical in Crossfit gyms to write up a “Workout of the Day” or “WOD” on a board which is what we usually do. It is fun to look back when our training is finished to see what I have accomplished. Laney is Scott’s nickname for me – a blend of “Lauren” and “Delaney.”
Talent is Overrated
I am a big fan of listening to books on Audible in my car. My latest selection is Talent is Overrated.
I am almost done with this bad boy, but I felt like it had some very interesting takeaways. We often look at successful people, and believe they had a “special talent” that got them to the place they are today. Well, it can in fact be more the act of deliberate practice and the desire to succeed than good genes.
The overnight success stories are really a myth. It makes for good magazine fodder, but most people work very hard to make a name for themselves.
