Hello and top of the morning to you! Today is Friday and that means the weekend is just around the corner. Speaking of mean, I just discovered today is National Mean Girl’s Day. I am not sure what one does to celebrate, but I thought you should be in the know. National Coffee Day, National Kale Day and now this…what a week!
10/3: Friday’s Favorite Things
Every Friday I like to share some a little round up of my favorite items, things and events from the week. So let us hope to those things that are making me smile this week. Please feel free to share what you are excited about this week too! The weekend can count. 🙂
I loved the Anne of Green Gables book series when I was growing up. I also loved the special that PBS did even more, and watched the mini-series repeatedly. It had fallen off my radar quite a bit, but I saw this quote pop up the other day when the months switched to October. It is simply, lovely and radiates gratitude. The thought stayed with me this week. I even changed my background on my desktop so I could enjoy it for the month.
Austin City Limits
I cannot believe I have been in Texas almost three months now. A little throwback to the night we crossed into the state and snagged a pic by one of the signs we saw on our route.
Scott’s sister, Betsy, of Acorn Squash recipe fame, is coming to town this weekend with her fiancée, Charlie. We are going with them to Austin City Limits which is an absolutely huge music festival that will basically shut the city down for the weekend. Hence, my plans today are to stay home and spend a lot of time studying. There is an eclectic musical line up including Calvin Harris, Eminem and Pearl Jam. This is just to name a few. When Scott and I were looking at the schedule I realized that I have never been to an actual music festival, despite going to plenty of concerts throughout the years. Should be a lot of fun!
The Power of Less
Leo Babuta has a great blog called Zen Habits where he discusses things like writing and living mindfully. I started his book The Power of Less on Audible earlier this week and I am almost finished. This is in part due to the crazy traffic I ran into yesterday, but still at least my time in the car was somewhat productive. This neat little book is so helpful in terms of getting closer to the life we want to live and making time for what is a priority in our lives. It also offers great advice for dealing with the minutiae that comes with modern living such as excess email and clutter in our homes and how to go about simplifying. I totally recommend it.
My New Lunch Bag
So alas I found the perfect little protein shake carrier at my local food store the other day. When I go to Lifetime, I usually pack a protein shake with me to drink on my way home. I like making my own, but there’s are also crazy expensive We are talking $8 for the non-dairy one I prefer, and that could add up wickedly fast. This lunch bag is tall so it does not spill and sits up right in the car I throw in an ice pack and it can be left in the car so I do not have to make an unnecessary trip to the locker room. Win-win.
Nashville Season 3
Between my love for country music and soap operas this show makes my heart sing. There have only been two episodes so far this season, but it is totally addicting. When will Rayna and Deacon get together already? Speaking of Nashville, you can bet Scott and I totally checked out the famous Blue Bird Café on our road trip down South. It was completely cool, and I felt like I was on a movie set.
I am headed to make some protein pancakes and get this day started! One chore includes clearing some data off my iPhone so I can install the new update.
A shout out to Heather for hosting a weekly link up of similar styled posts! Hope your weekend is filled with lots of fun and fall-themed activities.
